COMPOSITION
Each sachet (15ml) of Lactulose solution contains:
- Lactulose.................................................................................................10g.
INDICATIONS
- Prophylaxis of hepatic encephalopathy.
- Chronic constipation.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
- Prophylaxis of hepatic encephalopathy.
* Adults: Initially 20 - 30g, 3 times daily. Subsequently adjust the dose every 1 - 2 days as necessary to produce two or three soft stools eachday.
* Infants: 2 - 6g daily, in divided doses.
* Older children and adolescents: 30 - 60g daily, in divided doses. Subsequently adjust the dose every 1 - 2 days as necessary to produce two or
three soft stools each day. If initial dose causes diarrhea, reduce dose immediately, if diarrhea persists, discontinue.
- Constipation: Initially, lactulose may be given twice daily. In due course, the dose should be adjusted to the need of the individual, but the following serves as guide:
* Adults: 10g twice daily, increase to 40g daily if necessary. Maintenance doses are 7 to 10g daily.
* Children 5 - 10 years: 6g twice daily.
* Children under 5 years: 3g twice daily.
* Chilren under 1 years: 2g twice daily.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- Hypersensitivity to any of the components of drug.
- Patients with galactosemia and requiring a low lactose diet.
PRECAUTIONS
Patients with diabetes because of small amounts of free lactose and galactose in some dosage forms.
